Philippe Geluck - Yours Truly, Le Cat

Organized to mark the 125th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Belgium (1901–2026), an upcoming cultural exhibition at Beaux-Arts Gallery in Cheongdam highlights the life and work of Belgian multidisciplinary artist Philippe Geluck and his iconic creation, "Le Cat." Debuting in 1983 in the daily newspaper Le Soir, the suit-wearing feline rapidly evolved into a national symbol rivaling Tintin, combining Pop Art wit, homage to classical masterpieces, and sharp social satire to explore politics, language, and human nature. Geluck’s four-decade career spans painting, sculpture, and monumental public installations—most notably Le Cat Déambule, which transformed major European cityscapes like Paris and Geneva into open-air museums. Honored as a Commander of Belgium's Order of the Crown and a Knight of France's Order of Arts and Letters, Geluck actively channels his art into charitable causes supporting medical research, education, and human rights. This landmark exhibition offers Korean audiences an inspiring look into Geluck’s universe ahead of the opening of the dedicated Le Cat Cartoon Museum in Brussels and his major retrospective at Paris's Musée Maillol.
