The Invitation of Figurative Paintings

October 5 – October 24, 2024

Presented as the second part of a two-part exhibition examining Korean painting across abstraction and figuration, The Invitation of Figurative Paintings brought together fifteen artists representing a broad spectrum of Korean figurative practice. The exhibition considered figuration not simply as faithful representation but as a field through which artists interpret nature, daily life, memory, psychology, and the passage of time. From Koh Young-Hoon’s investigation of reality and illusion to Yoon Byung Rock’s precise imagery, Kim Jong-Hak’s vital landscapes, Lee Sea-Hyun’s reimagined terrain, and Han Man-Young’s layered encounters between historical images and contemporary objects, the exhibition emphasized the continued vitality and diversity of figurative painting in Korea.
