Shin Cheol — You Are Spring

In You Are Spring, Shin Chul returns to memories of people, hometown, affection, and longing through paintings characterized by simplified forms and vivid southern Korean color. The artist’s practice is rooted in a persistent question—why paint?—and in the desire to make images that can offer comfort despite the difficulties of life. Rather than pursuing complexity for its own sake, Shin draws on familiar human experiences and the atmosphere of adolescence, family, love, and nostalgia. Acrylic and oil are used freely, without rigid distinction, to create direct and emotionally accessible scenes. The exhibition reflects an artistic philosophy in which memory becomes a way of affirming the value of people and the possibility of healing through painting.
