Lee Heedon — In-yeon

In-yeon (緣): Rolling presents Lee Heedon’s exploration of human relationships through repeated brushwork, accumulated material, and layered color. The artist describes his paintings as emerging from an investigation of the self that gradually extended toward the people around him and the relationships through which life takes shape. Although his use of largely monochromatic fields has sometimes connected his work to Dansaekhwa, Lee understands the surface as a kind of collective image: individual marks intersect, overlap, and form new structures just as people do. His practice also draws on Korean materials and sensibilities, including paper, hanji, mulberry fibre, thread, and cord, used to build warm, tactile grounds.
