From Pop Art to Graffiti
February 15 – March 19, 2023
From Pop Art to Graffiti traced a broad trajectory from the emergence of Pop Art in the 1960s to the visual languages of graffiti and contemporary urban art. Bringing together artists including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Julian Opie, JonOne, ZEVS, Crash, L’Atlas, Nick Walker, Shepard Fairey, Pure Evil, ARNTOM, Nancy Lang, and others, the exhibition highlighted practices that moved beyond conventional expectations of painting and developed distinctive forms of image-making through popular culture, repetition, typography, spray paint, street imagery, and mass-media references. Presented together, these works reflected the changing relationship between fine art, public space, commercial imagery, and subculture.
